Zoiks, Scoob!

I graduated 29 years ago! A staple of my high school years was listening to Casey Kasem’s American Top 40. It played on Sunday mornings and I was usually at church for the bulk of the show. I’d get to hear the first hour getting ready for church. And church would often let out just early enough that I would get to hear the number 1 song (I’d run to turn on the car radio to hear it).

I would make it a point to listen to the year end count down though. Listening to AT 40 was always a great time to record songs I liked on cassette too. This morning I’m listening to the show that played around my grad week, June 25, 1988. I found the cue sheet on an AT 40 fan site, shared below. You can click at the bottom to turn the pages. Also shared is a summarized version of the show itself, edited to avoid copyright issues. But cool none the less. It’s amazing what you can find on the Internet.

Casey was the voice of Shaggy on the Scooby Doo cartoons, also a favorite of mine. Sadly Casey Kasem passed away in June 2104, on Father’s Day. He was a big influence on my dream to work in radio. I certainly appreciate the memories listening to these old shows bring, of a time more simple. One thing I learned from Casey was to “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.
