I am trying to wrap my mind around the fact that these two Boston bombing suspects, Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, would have been so sloppy to rob a convenience store, hijack a vehicle, then kill an MIT Police Officer and draw attention to themselves after having allegedly planted and detonated several bombs just a few days earlier. It is possible that they panicked as they saw their pictures on the FBI wanted list that was being broadcast by every media outlet. But I still find it curious that they would not have had a better “get away” plan. In this day and age where we know “big brother” watches just about everything we do and can easily track where we go, it baffles me that they would have been so sloppy.
So many people that knew Tamerlan and Dzhokhar telling media that they were friendly, well adjusted young men makes this even more interesting. Experts are saying that they do not fit typical terrorist profiles. Authorities are doing complete background investigations on these men to find out what kind of websites they visited and who they may have been communicating with via email and social media. What we are being led to believe at this point is that these men led a different kind of life in secret versus what they portrayed in public, but still hardly anything is really known about them.
It has been noted that in 2002 when authorities in Washington DC were eluded by the DC Sniper, the city was not shut down and people were told to go about their daily activities and not let the terrorism scare them. But this event has the community of Watertown, Massachusetts on lock down with the media readily displaying military vehicles and heavy police activity on our t.v.’s and computer monitors.
Something else to note is this happened the same week that the gun control legislation was blocked in the Senate. Will Obama use this distraction to sign executive orders to beef up gun registration and to ban ownership of certain guns? What do the authorities know about this situation and is this setting the stage for something bigger?
